Enlarged Pores

Pores are drains to sebum. While sebum glands on the face are more active than those on other body parts, more pronounced pores are required on the face to drain sebum. Pores are easily stretched by excess sebum secretion or keratin, and therefore people with oily or acne-prone skin are more likely to have pronounced pores.

Apart from the above reason, collagen and elastin decline with increasing age, causing loose skin which can no longer support a tight pore. Besides, squeezing, over-cleansing or misuse of skincare products may be a reason for pronounced pores.

Consistent use of topical retinol and glycolic acid are common medical solutions to pronounced pores. Laser, radiofrequency, and ultrasonic treatments are also introduced to improve such conditions. Nevertheless, attention should be paid to skincare products, routine skincare procedures, and sufficient sleep to prevent pore problems.
